Commonly used terms during
Greek Organization Recruitment:
Rush- The membership recruitment process where a
student shows interest in an organization; takes place the second two weeks of
classes
C.O.R./C.O.B.- Continual Open
Recruitment/Continual Open Bidding- As a campus which uses Informal
Recruitment, campus Sorority’s are able to continually give Bids through the
semester and start new members into the New Member Process
Club Rush- An event held by the University, the
Sunday before classes start where all the campus organizations, Greek life, and
student organizations have a station and are able to give out information about
their organization
Bid- A formal invitation to join a specific Greek
organization
Formal Recruitment- A series of parties or events given by each sorority during a period which is scheduled and governed by Panhellenic Council.
Potential- A potential New Member to your
organization/ a person who shows interest in a particular organization
Defer- The choice to wait to sign your bid until
the next semester
New Member- A member who has not been initiated
but signed their bid to go through with the New Member Process to join the
organization.
Alpha Academy- Campus required session where New
Members learn about Greek life and what to expect and what is expected from
them
T.I.P.S.- Campus required session where New
Members learn about the risks of drinking
